Induction: Day 1

Donate Now

Well, I’m here. Finally!! I am so excited that Induction has finally started. I don’t have much time to write given that it’s 11:40pm (CST) and I am waiting for my roommate to get done reading before we turn out the lights. I will post a longer, more detailed post later this week (maybe tomorrow) to fill y’all in on what’s happened so far. For now though, I want to simply sum up the day.
I arrived on Wash U’s campus at about 3:30pm. I parked, checked in, and headed off to find my room. After meeting my roommate (Ms. T from San Antonio,…

Success, hopefully!

Pre-Institute WorkReflectionExercise Eight Imagine that it is the end of your first year teaching, and all of your students and their families write you a letter expressing their opinions, reflections, and feelings about the experiences they (or their children) have had with your class. What do you hope your students and their families will say?…

We do not really see through our eyes or hear through our ears, but through our beliefs. To put our beliefs on hold is to cease to exist as ourselves for a moment – and that is not easy. It is painful as well, because it means turning yourself inside out, giving up your sense…

In the home stretch…

…this is it folks! I can’t believe I am in the midst of finals week of my senior year. I’m excited, anxious, hopeful about the future, and overwhelmed all at once. I’m done with final exams. Today I present the findings from the organizational development (OD) project I completed for my Industrial/Organizational (I/O) psych field study. I firmly believe everything happens for a…

May’s To-do List

Come June, if you read a post on this blog that describes my trip to the looney bin, here’s why: May 1 – Study for Monday’s two final exams.             Join Alex at his elementary school’s “Muffins with Mom” event.             Help Kyndra prep for her senior prom (i. e., fix hair, make up, pick up flowers). …

I do

I, your (future) teacher, take you, my (future) students, to be my priority, my inspiration, my sole objective and my challenge from this day forward. In the presence of your principal, your previous and future teachers, your family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your sincerest mentor in clarity and in confusion, in good grading periods and in bad, and in…

If you’ve read any of my previous posts regarding the Praxis exam, then it should be no surprise to you that I was very unprepared going into this testing experience. Since being notified of my acceptance into TFA, I’ve been extremely apprehensive about my middle school science placement. For those who don’t know, I’ve studied sociology and psychology…

Wow! I know it’s been quite a while since I last posted, but it feels like I did so just yesterday. As the title of this post states, life has been cruising right along. Spring semester began back in January and I’ve been running ever since. I’ll do my best to recap the goings on…

The wait is finally over!

Congratulations to those of you who were notified of your acceptance into TFA yesterday. I know how nerve-wracking the waiting and not knowing can be. Now you just have to decide whether you want to commit to teaching whatever and wherever they’ve assigned you. Good luck deciding!

Praxis test tomorrow

My results on the multiple practice exams I’ve taken are not very encouraging. My weak areas are chemistry and physics. Simply put, there is just too much content to try to learn in such a short amount of time. Oh well, I’ll take this test and continue studying until the results come in. By then…
